Ampudia

Town Hall

Ampudia is a municipality in the province of Palencia, in the Autonomous Community of Castile and León, located in the Tierra de Campos region. Its history dates back to the High Middle Ages and is linked to the Rojas family, from Sancho de Rojas to Francisco Sandoval y Rojas, with whom the County of Ampudia was created. The town has a characteristic urban layout from the Late Middle Ages, due to the presence of a fortified enclosure that protected the population, consisting of the castle and the city walls. Another characteristic of its urban layout is the narrow, winding streets with arcades, which constitute a significant example of traditional Castilian architecture. Ampudia was an episcopal see and was home to a Templar convent, an Augustinian monastery, and a Poor Clare convent.
