View of the castle on the esplanade of the hill

The castle of Nogales is a medieval fortress of the XV century. Its construction, together with the repopulation of the town, was carried out by the first gentleman of Feria, Gómez Suárez de Figueroa. Its location is based on a small hill from where you can observe several kilometers around. The castle consists of a homage tower, surrounded by a wall with cylindrical turrets in its corners, all the crenellated elements being. Access to the fortress was through a drawbridge that allowed to cross the moat that surrounded it.

Nogales is a municipality in the province of Badajoz in the Autonomous Community of Extremadura. It belongs to the judicial district of Almendralejo, halfway between the districts of Olivenza and Tierra de Barros, in the vicinity of the Sierra de Monsalud. The population extends on the southeast slope of a hill called Cabezo de Nogales. Arab sources make reference to Nuqalis when they refer to the military campaign carried out by the emirate troops in the year 876, against the muladí rebel Ibn Marwan, founder of the city of Badajoz. Modern authors identify this Nuqalis with the current Nogales.
